Art Miami 2019

The diptych deals with concept of freedom. It reminds us of the golden cages which were popular during the Victorian era. It was fashionable in royal circles to keep canaries in golden cages.

Nowadays we, in western societies, have come to value personal and social freedom versus the “shackles” of more traditional societies, and thus, have come to think of the golden cage as a form of entrapment.

However, are we as free as we think we are, or do we live entrapped by our ideas? Do we live in golden cages?
